Organization Owners and Admins can invite people to the organization, choose their roles, and manage their access from the organization page.
People can join as an Admin or Member. Only the current Owner can transfer ownership to someone else.

What you’ll need

  • An Owner or Admin role in the organization
  • The email addresses of the people you want to invite
  • A role for each group of invitees: Admin or Member

Invite people

  1. Open the organization page:
    • Select the organization name in the upper-left corner, then choose Organization options; or
    • Open the menu next to your account and select Organization.
  2. Select Invite people.
  3. Choose whether the people you are inviting will join as Admins or Members.
  4. Enter their email addresses, separated by commas.
  5. Select Send invites.
You can enter up to 20 email addresses for the selected role at a time. To invite people with a different role, return to the role-selection step and send a separate set of invitations.
Invitations are tied to the email addresses you enter. The invited person should sign in or create their Compute account with the same email address.

Choose the right role

Invite an Admin

Admins can use organization resources and help manage the organization. They can:
  • Invite people
  • Change people between the Admin and Member roles
  • Remove Admins and Members
  • Rename the organization
  • See all organization instances
  • View billing and usage details
Admins cannot add credits, manage payment methods, configure auto top-up, transfer ownership, or delete the organization.

Invite a Member

Members can create and use organization resources. Instances they create use the shared organization balance. Members cannot manage people, organization settings, or billing. They see the instances they created rather than every instance in the organization.

Manage pending invitations

People who have not accepted their invitations appear as pending on the organization page. Owners and Admins can use the menu next to a pending invitation to:
  • Resend invite if the person still needs access
  • Cancel invite if they should no longer be able to join
Canceling an invitation makes its existing invitation link invalid. Send a new invitation if the person needs access later.

Change an Admin to a Member

  1. Open the organization page.
  2. Find the person under Admins.
  3. Open the menu next to their name.
  4. Select Change to member.
  5. Review the change, then select Change to member again.
The person stays in the organization but loses Admin permissions. They can continue using organization resources as a Member.

Change a Member to an Admin

  1. Open the organization page.
  2. Find the person under Members.
  3. Open the menu next to their name.
  4. Select Change to admin.
  5. Review the permissions they will receive, then select Change to admin again.
The person can then manage people and organization settings, see all organization instances, and view billing and usage details.
Admins can manage people and see organization-wide instances, billing, and usage information. Assign the role only to people who need those responsibilities.

Remove someone from the organization

Owners and Admins can remove other Admins and Members.
  1. Open the organization page.
  2. Find the person you want to remove.
  3. Open the menu next to their name.
  4. Select Remove member.
  5. Confirm that you understand the consequences shown in the dialog.
  6. Select Remove member again.
Removing someone has an immediate effect:
  • They lose access to the organization.
  • Their running and stopped instances in the organization are terminated.
  • They need a new invitation to rejoin.
Terminating an instance permanently deletes its local data. Make sure the person has saved anything important before you remove them.

Manage the Owner role

The Owner cannot be demoted or removed like an Admin or Member. To change the Owner, transfer ownership to an Admin. If the person you want to make Owner is currently a Member, change them to an Admin first. Then follow the ownership transfer instructions.
